FUTURITY RULES
OPEN
FUTURITY COMMITTEE
A. The Committee
shall consist of at least three (3) members; one of who shall serve as
Chairperson.
B. There will be
an annual audit to monies and records of individual nomination, sustaining
fees, penalties, etc. The results will be kept on file with the WPHC Board
of Directors.
C. There will
be a quarterly report given to the Board of Directors. This report will
include (but
not limited to):
Total nominations, sustaining payments and total monies collected.
D. The
committee reserves the right, subject to the approval of the Board of
Directors to cancel,
postpone or move the
Open Futurity classes. All eligible exhibitors will be notified of any
changes(s) at least
30 days prior to the show.
RESPONSIBILITY OF PERSON(S) MAKING NOMINATIONS(S)
A. Each year,
the WPHC Open Futurity Committee will conduct a Futurity.
B.
Nomination forms will be published in a timely fashion.
C. No
substitutes will be allowed (mares, foal or performance) after the
nomination has been
made.
D. In the event
that a horse is withdrawn from the Futurity (either by failure to provide
sustaining payments, not exhibiting in the class, or disqualification) all
fees remain in the purse for the horse’s originally designated class.
E. In the event
that a nominated foal is naturally aborted or is "absorbed," a stillborn
or a lethal white, the mare nomination will be forwarded to the next year,
contingent upon documentation by a veterinarian’s written report citing
(but limited to):
1. The
date of the examination and in the event of a live-born foal.
2. The
cause of death/reason for destroying the foal.
All monies will be
forwarded with the mare. This written report is to be submitted to the
Futurity Chairperson prior to the Futurity show.
F. The owner of
the horse exhibited and exhibitor must be a current member in good
standing with the WPHC for that horse to be shown in the Futurity.
G. Original
registration papers or legible copy must be presented to the Futurity
Secretary prior to entering all classes. This includes entries in the
weanling classes.
H. The WPHC
Futurity Committee reserves the right to Drug Test all Futurity horses.
I. Any Owner or
Exhibitor subject to APHA disciplinary action will not be eligible to
participate in any WPHC sponsored Futurity Show.
J. If a NSF
payment (check) is returned to the Futurity, the payee will be charged
$25.00. If a
person has a total
of two (2) checks returned for insufficient funds during a calendar year,
that person will be on a cash/money order only basis for a period of one
(1) year after the last NSF check was received. A NSF check will be
considered non-payment. The entry will be considered late and late fees
will apply.
CONDUCT OF THE OPEN FUTURITY
A.
There will be no less than two (2) judges. A minimum of one-judge hired
must be APHA approved. In the event of a multi-judge show (POR) held in
conjunction with the Futurity, all judges hired for the POR will judge all
Futurity classes. Each judge’s score will be of equal consideration when
tallying total points for each horse judged. All horses exhibited in a
class will be placed. (i.e. if 20 horses are exhibited, all 20 horses will
be placed.)
B. In the event
of a tie, the tying horses will be recognized for that position with the
purse of that position added and divided between the horses tied.
Example: If three
horses tie for the top position, the horses will be recognized as follows:
1st-Three way tie
4th place
5th place, etc.
The purse for the
three places will be added together and divided equally between the top
three horses.
MARE OWNER
A. Mare Owner
refers to one party, regardless or whether that party is an individual,
syndicate or partnership.
B. The mare must
be nominated (identified) along with the last date bred, to the Open
Futurity Secretary before January 15th of the foaling year. Failure to
notify the Futurity Chairperson will disqualify the mare/foal from
participating in the open Futurity
C. A mare that
has been nominated to the open Futurity and is sold in foal is still
eligible to participate in the Open Futurity. The new owner of the
resulting foal must be a member before the foal may be shown. Notification
of the sale must be submitted to the Chairperson
by both parties
(seller and purchaser).
D. Birth date and
sex of resulting foal must be shared with Open Futurity Secretary no later
than July 15th of the year foaled.
HALTER FUTURITY
A. Horses shown
must be registered with the American Paint Horse Association (APHA). The
horses can be in the Regular, Breeding Stock or Paint Bred registries.
Original APHA registration papers or legible copy must be presented to the
Futurity Secretary prior to entering the class. EXCEPTION: If foal is the
product of shipped semen, a pink cooled semen report and an APHA work
order must be presented to the Futurity Secretary.
B. There will be
two halter classes offered: Weanling Fillies and Weanling Stallions.
Regular and Breeding Stock foals will be shown together. When the number
of foals entered in a halter class (stallions or fillies) equals 15 or
more, that class will be split by birth date.
C. Nominating
Fee: $15.00 Due January 15th
1st Sustaining Fee:
$35.00 Due April 15th
2nd Sustaining
Fee: $35.00 Due July 15th
D. A 30-day late
fee will be accepted for sustaining fees only, by doubling the payment
missed. After 30 days no late fees will be accepted. Postage metered dates
will not be accepted.
E. Exhibitor and
owner of horse shown must be a current member in good standing of the WPHC
prior to class.
PURSE AND PAYBACK SCHEDULE FOR
WEANLING HALTER CLASSES
A. 90 % of
the total purse will be paid back. The remaining 10% will be retained for
expenses.
B. Payback
is based upon the number of horses shown as follows:

C. The Purse
will be divided with equal amounts in each halter class.
WESTERN PLEASURE RULES
TWO-YEAR-OLD OPEN WESTERN
PLEASURE
A. Horse shown
must be registered with APHA registration papers (Regular, Breeding Stock
or Paint Bred.). Original APHA registration papers or legible copy must be
presented to the Futurity Secretary prior to entering the class.
B.

Due April 15th
Sustaining Payment: $75.00 Due
July 15th
C. Late entries
will be accepted by doubling all payments until August 1st.
After August 1st until the day of the show, the entry fee will
be $450.00. Failure to submit payments will cause the horse to be
ineligible to show. Postage metered dates will not be accepted.
D. Each class
will be covered by the APHA rulebook.
E. Exhibitor and
owner of horse shown must be a current member in good standing of the WPHC
prior to class.
TWO- AND
THREE-YEAR-OLD NON-PRO (AMATEUR OR YOUTH) WESTERN PLEASURE
A. The exhibitor
must qualify as a Youth or Amateur according to the APHA rules. Horse
shown must be registered with APHA registration papers (Regular, Breeding
Stock or Paint Bred). Original APHA registration papers or legible copy
must be presented to the Open Futurity Secretary prior to entering the
class.
B. Nominating
Fee: $75.00 Due
April 15th
Sustaining
Fee: $75.00 Due July
15th
C. Late entries
will be accepted by doubling all payments until August 1st.
After August 1st and up to the day of the show, the entry fee
will be $450.00. Failure to submit payments will cause the horse to be
ineligible to show. Postage Metered dates will not be accepted.
D. Exhibitor and
owner of the horse shown must be a current member of the WPHC, and either
the WJPHC or WAPHC prior to entering the class.
E. The horse
exhibited must be owned by exhibitor or immediate family member as defined
in the Youth and Amateur sections of the current APHA Rule Book. The horse
must be owned continuously from June 30th of the exhibiting
year through the last day of the Futurity show in the exhibiting year.
Horse cannot be shown on a transfer.
F. Each class
will be covered by the APHA rulebook.

GENERAL RULES
A. All horses
must present their original APHA registration papers or legible copy
(Regular, Breeding Stock or Paint Bred) prior to entering the ring. All
horses entered in the Futurity classes must also be entered in their
corresponding open class in the show, unless the horse being exhibited is
a Breeding Stock or Paint Bred.
B. Exhibitor and
owners of entries must be a member of good standing with paid membership
in the WPHC prior to exhibiting.
C. All classes
will be governed by the APHA rulebook.
D. Nominating
Fee: $25.00 Due April 15th
Sustaining Fee: $75.00 Due July
15th
E. Late entries
will be accepted. Entries received July 15 through Aug. 15 are $150.00.
Entries received from Aug. 15 to day of show are $225.00. Failure to
submit payments will cause the horse to be ineligible to show. Postage
Metered dates will not be accepted.
F. 90% payback,
with 10% retained by Futurity. Payback based on the actual number of
horses shown. Refer to payback schedule for Western Pleasure classes for
more information.
G. Each class
will be covered by the APHA rulebook.
